| ...to a lack of understanding.  I understand your argument.  It's just wrong. Shorter gears allow you to accelerate more quickly, and you can mitigate slippage with boost control, etc.  Taller gears cause less slippage because you are accelerating more slowly.  That's not an advantage. Yes we get it - taller gears are longer. Therefore you've got a minute advantage with a very small percentage of the top of the rpm range. You keep harping on this mostly insignificant amount of acceleration time at the very top of the gear, and completely ignore the fact that shorter gears are better for the entire remainder of the rpm band.
